The Founding Vision
A passion for fire and face-to-face play
The founders of The Oak & River Card Lounge shared a belief that the best evenings combine exceptional food with genuine human connection. They saw a gap in Sydney's hospitality scene for a venue that took poker seriously as a social, tactical game without the noise of a casino.
The name “Oak & River” reflects the natural elements of wood-fired cooking and the flow of a well-played hand. The speakeasy-inspired design was chosen to create an intimate, cinematic atmosphere. Every detail, from the high-grade ceramic poker chips to the custom-built grill, was selected to enhance the experience.

The poker lounge is a separate, acoustically treated space designed for focus and comfort. It features professional-grade poker tables with emerald green felt, high-grade ceramic poker chips, and dedicated dealers. The lounge has its own bar for table-side drink service, lighting is adjustable to suit tournament play, and the space is decorated with subtle poker-themed art and memorabilia.
